It was pretty dark when I visited my friend Rosa, this week, so could only take some pretty bad shots of her very endearing oil paintings. All framed by her late husband. Her house is covered in them, all painted at a tiny desk in her spare room. Its a great journey through her childhood in Italy, family life and quite a few renditions of Christ in various scenarios. They come in visions.

Really would love to paint more singers. Had this big blonde mop of hair I was keen to paint and at the time Carly Simon was playing on the radio. Theres a bit of Carly, coming through in this work. I used part of the line 'the way that you hold me whenever you hold me... theres some kind of magic inside you...' for the title.
An inspiration for 'I can see you, but I can't hear you, turn your camera on' was the beautiful portraits of Jim Nutt. I thought of the title when I was thinking about the difficulty sometimes with communicating on phone or Skype. Their eyes don't meet yours and it cuts out sometimes during crucial moments.
Wheres Molly? Can you spot my little porcelain bust in Katherine Hattams recent work.

New Show: I can still remember how to speak
If you are in Sydney at all in the month of May, come and see my new paintings at Darren Knight Gallery. Opening Saturday 3rd of May 4-6pm, I'm happy I will not miss this one. The last one I had to rush to Bangkok for the birth of Larina.

I love some of these big wave paintings of Raymond Pettibond. He keeps it simple and direct. Was lucky to see a big wall full of his work at the Hamburger in Berlin. Like a little retreat amongst the really contemporary art with really contemporary ideas. Sometimes art is the best escape from art.
